Nokia 808 PureView: How It Works, 41mp Smartphone Cam Deep Dive

The Nokia 808 PureView is available for pre-order in Europe now. Because images are circular, not square, it isn’t exactly a 41mp smartphone cam. But it’s close.

The smartphone cam’s sensor, as outlined in the specs, does have the capability of 41mp, a total of 7728 x 5368 pixels. That’s still more than five times the resolution you get with any other smartphone camera. I’ve got a deep dive on how this technology works — via pixel binning, as patented by HP, and image optimizing algorithms.

Here’s a sample photo from Nokia that is particularly sharp.

The Nokia 808 PureView commercial above was shot with a PureView smartphone, reps at Finland-based Nokia say. Pretty awesome. Click inside to see how this works — deep tech explainer, videos, pricing info, pre-order info, and why does 41mp really equate to 38mp images? Check out our How It Works.
