CES 2014: MediaFire Rich Media Cloud Platform Delivers

Written by Gina Smith

MediaFire emailed us before CES 2014, saying it would have nothing new to show at ShowStoppers. But I still liked its fast, affordable media cloud platform …

aNewDomain.net — I smiled when we received a pre-CES 2014 email from MediaFire this year. In it, MediaFire reps said they’d be at the CES 2014 ShowStoppers event but with nothing new to show. MediaFire would just have t-shirts. And demos.

“Refreshing honesty,” commented our Lamont Wood in passing along his copy of the email to me.

After getting the email from staffers multiple times, I thought I’d stop by to see whether the gimmick, if it was a gimmick, was going to work for these folks. MediaFire’s newest release is just a few months old, after all. And the gimmick wasn’t just a gimmick. MediaFire, if you didn’t know, turns out to be a cool cloud platform for storing and rapidly-accessing multimedia on Apple OS X, Windows, Android, and Apple iOS devices. There’s a recent rev. And amazing new pricing. Check it all out, below.

MediaFire isn’t new, but it’s fast — and cheap. That’s why the private firm quietly has grown into a real contender in the cloud storage and multimedia player biz. It focuses on multimedia — and because it focuses on videos, photos and other rich media, it offers enhanced performance over such big gun competition as Amazon and Google, execs said. We saw it in action. There was, in fact, no visible latency.

MediaFire, which launched several years ago, now boasts some 34 million users. It offers up to 60GB of free storage, allowing you to keep all content in one place. That way you don’t have to worry about any one of your devices running out of room. Just rapidly access it from any Mac, Windows PC or Apple iOS device you happen to be using. Certainly, this is headed for Android.

Totally worth checking it out. For aNewDomain.net, I’m Gina Smith.
