Fat Tuesday, which officially closes the Mardi Gras festival season, is February 13, 2013 this year. It officially began, as it does every year, on the traditional Twelvth Night — January 6, 2013. The peak of the party we call Mardi Gras is also known variously as Mardi Gras, Carnival, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Paczki Day and Pancake Day.
The official Mardi Gras song in New Orleans, say the folks at MardiGras.com, is “Carnival Time.” That’s Al Johnson’s (aka, the king of Krewe du Vieux 2005) signature tune, first released in 1960. Watch it below.
