Tom Sloan Cartoon: Too Many Bad Commercials

Why are there so many bad commercials? Or is it just me? Maybe they are all great but I’m the only one who thinks otherwise.

aNewDomain.net — Who watches TV for the commercials? No one, unless its the Super Bowl or the Winter Olympics. As a rule commercials are lousy. There are countless commercials that are simply nauseating. Watching so many putrid ads makes me wonder, How did they ever get produced in the first place? Not only did someone (or more likely a committee) actually come up with the dastardly ideas, but they had to be pitched to a series of executives before they were produced. Are there so many mindless people out there? What does the CEO think after he sees the atrocity his company just put on TV? Do heads roll the next day? Apparently not enough do.

Despite the agony of having crappy commercials endlessly thrust upon us, every once in a while there is a good one. If you’re lucky you might enjoy as many as two. But since perception is one’s reality, there are probably some people out there who love the very same commercials you loathe.

For aNewDomain.net, I’m Tom Sloan.

  • I agree – it seems like commercials have gone from a “this is the product and what it can do for you” mentality to a sexy/Mtv kind of approach. They’re either ethereal to the point where you wonder what the commercial is actually for, or entirely repetitive and annoying. Every now and then there’s a gem but it’s few and far between. We’re doing something revolutionary over at Skipr.tv – we’d appreciate your support.
