Tom Sloan Cartoon: Academy Award-winning Acting

Everybody deserves an Academy Award — even the filmmakers behind the camera. Tom Sloan’s take on tech and film.

aNewDomain.net — Can’t sing? Try singing with auto-tune. I gotta say it’s a a great invention. Through the miracle of electronic digital manipulation, even bad singers can finally hit the right note. Now karaoke is good for the singer and even better for those who have to listen. You really don’t appreciate a good singer until you hear a bad one.

The same thing goes for acting. You don’t appreciate good acting until you see someone acting badly. Once a year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gives out Academy Awards to actors and actresses for outstanding performances. It also gives out Oscars for technical merit to people who invent new lenses, cameras, Steadicams, or some sort of CGI device. In this way, the people behind the scenes get the acknowledgements they deserve — even though 99 percent of moviegoers still don’t notice their contributions. Now if there was a way to combine good acting with a new electronic thing — everyone could win!

For aNewDomain.net, I’m Tom Sloan.
