aNewDomain — Voting. You can’t drive a car without passing a licensing test. You can’t be a lawyer or a doctor without passing an exam. You can’t be a plumber, carpenter, or electrician without passing an exam. There are probably dozens of things you can’ t do without having to pass a test.
But voting isn’t one of them.
Maybe we should consider disenfranchising people who can’t successfully complete a basic citizenship test. Of course, there is a huge potential for abuse. But then again, how many of the folks who are about to decide whose finger rests on the atomic bomb, whose decisions decide the fate of the US economy, and other fairly weighty matters could actually pass a citizenship test?
Here’s a humble proposition: If you can’t answer six out of the following 10 questions, then maybe you should seriously consider not voting.
Here’s the test. Good luck.
