aNewDomain — The beloved tech conference Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is centered around all things mobile, is almost here. This is the time of year we yell to the likes of Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola “shut up and take my money!” Why? Because (in theory) the next hot smartphone is announced at MWC.
There are other innovations at MWC, too. It’s a chance to look at the tiny tech within our (already small) tech devices, like chip sets, battery life and code — all the nerdy stuff. Of course there are accessories and wearables to consider as well, even products debuted at CES that might be ready for market. Personally?
I can’t wait.

Smartphone Buzz
Tech news has been flooded with leaks from the smartphone manufacturers of the world. HTC has formally announced it’s holding a press conference on March 1, 2015, one day before the MWC festivities. Word on the street is HTC will announce the next iteration of its flagship mobile phone, the M9.
Then there’s the company Apple attorneys love to hate, Samsung. Its next flagship phone iteration, the Galaxy S6, is more than likely to be announced on March 1, 2015, as well. I hope the announcement isn’t as lame as the 2014 Unpacked show was — boy did that one disappoint.

Does any of this excite you? Are you able to keep up with the pre-Mobile World Congress madness? When it comes to smartphones, what seals the deal for you? These days many smartphones share similar specs — but few set themselves apart with a unique feature or the “wow factor.” Despite that, we continue to say “shut up and take my money, Apple, Samsung, LG and HTC!”
Personally, I look forward to a new smartphone every few years. Why? Because by then the phone has been through general wear and tear. Also, the hardware isn’t quite up to snuff with the current times. My technolust plays a very small part in wanting a new smartphone.
It’s too bad Mobile World Congress starts on March 2, 2015, as it seems all the notable mobile phone providers this side of Apple are grabbing the spotlight to themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited to make the trek across the Atlantic to Barcelona this weekend, but I’m really curious to see what will be on display for the masses at the conference itself — after the spotlight is turned off of March 1.
