aNewDomain — Back in 2015, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said American immigration policies were “near the top … of the long list of stupid policies of the U.S. government.”
Arguing for an increase in the number of highly-skilled H-1B workers allowed into the U.S., he said limiting their ranks was at foolhardy at best– and dangerous for the U.S. economy at worst.
“We take very, very smart people, bring them into the country, give them a diploma and kick them out where they go on to create companies that compete with us,” Schmidt said at an event held by the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.
Schmidt, not surprisingly, is among several prominent Silicon Valley companies now standing up against Pres. Donald Trump’s beleaguered immigration ban.
