aNewDomain — For years I used a Motorola Razr as my main phone and have always been impressed with the quality of Motorola phones. Recent changes in ownership haven’t changed that, at least not with the Motorola Droid Turbo. This is a quality phone that you can use every day. Here’s my in-depth Motorola Droid Turbo review.

Fine for heavy users

The Motorola Droid Turbo will take a lot of intense use. The extra-large 3900 mAh battery is impressive. It can last an entire day, even with almost constant use. Unfortunately, this phone is following the current trend with a non-removable battery. The Quad processor makes for a phone with a speedy response.

With dimensions of 2.89 in. by 5.56 in. by 0.31 in. and weighing 5.96 oz., this is a fairly large phone. The crowning jewel is the 5.2″ HD Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass 3 Display, which renders one of the clearest screens in the business (2560 x 1440, 565 ppi). This phone bests the Moto X with improved performance, longer battery life, and a sharper screen.

The back of my review model was made of a new, woven ballistic nylon. It feels good in the hand and resists fingerprints and smudges quite well. My only complaint? It heated up quickly.

A 21-mp camera that wakes right up

The default wallpaper on the lock screen (shown below) mimics the backing and provides for an easy-on-the-eyes daily screen.

I loved how the 21-megapixel camera wakes up with a few quick twists of the wrist. Daylight pictures are excellent with good color depth. The dual-LED flash shoots adequately, but under low light images are a little noisy.

The phone had average sound quality but good speakers.

Some of the Moto-only features were fun and useful. Moto Voice lets you issue voice commands even when the phone is asleep. Moto Display shows time and notifications even when the phone is asleep. Moto Actions lets you use gesture controls without touching the phone.

The included Turbo Charger power supply can take you from zero to 50 percent battery power in about an hour, another plus for heavy users.

The bottom line

This phone is a Verizon exclusive selling for $99 with a two-year contract. If you are a Verizon user, it’s a good one to consider as it won’t let you down, even if you’re a heavy user. There’s a lot of bang for the buck here.
