At the ShowStoppers press event at CES 2014, our Todd Townsend checked in with Reticare, which purports to have a solution to retina damage recearch from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) has shown to damage mobile-beleagued eyes like ours.
Reticare, with its Reticare ocular protection device for mobile devices, is a joint effort from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and Beverly Hills, CA-based Sustainable & Responsible Technology. It’s come up with the first ever retina-protection shield, Reticare execs told me. Launched here at CES 2014, it is an ocular shield that protects eyes from Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).
CVS is related to the retinal cell damage and cell loss that some 80 percent of mobile computer users suffer as a result of staring directly into the light mobile devices emit, an activity your eyes didn’t evolve to do. The Reticare shield prevents retinal damage and loss, inventors claim, by absorbing the most energetic light radiation — before it hits your retinas. Check out the video below. At the very least, Reticare makes mobile viewing more visually comfortable by reducing eyestrain that results from so much light hitting your eyes during hours and hours of mobile usage. Association now employs to describe a variety of ocular symptoms — including temporary near-sightedness, dry eyes and eyestrain — they believe plague the majority of users of LED-backlit systems like smartphones and tablets.
