aNewDomain — A company called Skydio is marketing a $2500 consumer autonomous drone that can track the face of anyone whose image is available via the Internet.
As if that’s not freaky and frightening enough, note that this drone is fully autonomous. No one needs to pilot it.
Given the fact that in 2015 a father and son in Connecticut mounted a pistol to a drone and shot it remotely into the woods, this seems like cause for concern.
But in this society, where technological progress is a given and the idea of regulation is anathema, we have no choice but to hunker down in wait for the future.
For aNewDomain, I’m Ted Rall.
