Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP: How To Increase the Recently Used Programs List

Customize Start Menu

Our managing editor Jeremy Lesniak likes the recently-used program list in Windows, but it’s too short for him. Here’s how to make that list longer.

I’m a big fan of the recently-used program list feature in Windows. But it’s short. Fortunately it’s easy to increase the number of programs kept in the list. Here’s how.

First right click on Start and click Properties.

Now click the Customize button. Just change the number in the box at the bottom. Depending on your screen size and resolution, you might want to play around with the number. Because I use a large monitor, and 15 programs on the list just about fills the screen.
