Google + 2012 Global Hangout New Year’s Party: 200K Expected to Show, How to Join

Singer Daria Musk is hosting a 24 hour Happy New Year LIVE Google+ hangout beginning a few minutes before New Zealand becomes the first to ring in 2012. How is she doing it? How can you join? It’s easy. All the details here, including how she managed to get over the 10 person Hangout limit. Two hundred thousand Google+ members are expected to show from more than 100 countries … now that is what I call a party! Think she’ll sing? I KNOW she will.

Many years ago, there were people — one Clifford Stoll comes to mind — who warned that in the future, we’d even be celebrating holidays virtually, perhaps isolated and cast in the bluish goal of a computer screen. For some of us, that’s come to fruition — but guys like Stoll never knew it could be this much fun. Renowned young singer Daria Musk has created a giant Google+ global 2012 celebration, spanning time zones and beginning with New Zealand. Here’s what it is and how to RSVP.  Some 200K Google+ members are expected to show. Think they will? Will you?

Way to start a grassroots movement, Daria. Below, find out how to join up. If you’re in New Zealand, in the first timezone to reach 2012, better start now!

Basically, Daria has taken it upon herself to create a giant 24 hour Google hangout (New Zealand, at GMT +13, will be first to see 2012) — and folks are RSVP-ing from all over the world.  Just click RSVP to add yourself to the Google Doc.

You just add your name, city, Google+ id, hometown and add what, if anything, you plan to bring in the way of video, photos or anything else to the live Hangout. To join, comment or +1 the zones you want to join for … or RSVP here and add your details to this enormous Googledoc she has going.

I know what you’re thinking. Google+ hangouts are limited to 10 folks at a time. But Daria and a group of fans she called G+niuses, she says, “created an etiquette of rotating the audience from around the world in and out of those “front row seats.” Her Hangout Concerts, streamed live to nearly 10,000 Google+ members over Hangouts, were reportedly seen by nearly 10K fans in more than 100 countries.

The folks behind this effort are expecting 200,000 folks to show up. Will you be one? Do you have a life? Or is this your life? I’m in Boston for the holidays, it’ll be too cold to go out, and I want to see this thing. So I’ll be there. To watch on a big screen, click here.

Here’s Daria, in her own words, explaining the whole scene.

Time Zones…When She’ll Stop, No One Knows?
Everyone’s been asking me, “Are you going to hangout for 24hrs straight?!”
Well, I hatched an idea! Tell me what you think:

Short Midnight Hangouts For Each Zone
1. Using our RSVP’s, I’ll work with you to plan each time zone Hangout-On-Air.
2. I’ll make circles for everyone in each time zone, especially G+niuses with 2012 excitement to show! From backyard fireworks to rooftop views of major cities!
3. I’ll open short Hangouts (30 mins?) for each zone to talk, sing, celebrate the new year as it hits!
4. Rinse and repeat

Everyone Can Watch + Anyone Can Join
All the Hangouts will be Hangouts-On-Air so you can pull up my profile page (+Daria Musk) to watch the active hangouts as they happen and catch them later on my +YouTube Page: www.youtube.com/dariamusk

If you want to join just add yourself to the Google Doc RSVP’s and I’ll add you to a time zone circle of your choice!

So, even if you want to hangout in the afternoon for you, you can celebrate with someone who’s living in 2012 already and can tell you what it’s like in the future. ;-)

Who’s bringing the party hats?!
I feel like we’re embarkinG+ on a once-in-a-lifetime, or at least first-in-a-lifetime, journey around the world and through time!!
