Samsung Galaxy S3 Release for May 3: How the Big Tease Worked

It all started with a cryptic tweet, pointing to a teaser website. The site was down, which outraged users, but then Samsung announced its May 3 unveiling of the hotly awaited Samsung S3, or S III. Here’s the teaser video up now at its teaser website. Click in for more details on how Samsung spun some serious interest.

Samsung Mobile today announced that its next Galaxy, the Galaxy S3 — or S III, if you will — will be “unpacked” on May 3, culminating a tease that had Android users on an emotional rollercoaster over the last 24 hours. This is according to a teaser site that has been provoking a lot of interest from the Android communities over the last few hours.

It all started with this unusual tweet, below, from Samsung Mobile on Sunday, April 22. An anagram. Can you read it? See below.

The cryptic Samsung  Mobile Twitter account message read: Destination: tgeltaayehxnx

Clever Android fans quickly figured out that “tgeltaayehxnx” is an anagram for “the next galaxy.” And sure enough, up popped a teaser website at that address — called The Next Galaxy. Here’s the teaser video that came up.

The site also had a timer set to expire this morning, April 23, U.S. time. But when the timer went off, the site went down.

Folks on Twitter expressed outrage. What was up with this?

Android folk went nuts on Twitter. One Twitter user summed it up handily with a tweet that read:

The site came back up with launch details soon after, though. The teaser site says May 3, 2012 is the release date. So it was a successful tease by all accounts. We’re talking about it, aren’t we?

Samsung, on its teaser site, will “unpack” the next Galaxy — the Galaxy S3 — on May 3, 2012 at 7 p.m. at a London event — it will be live streamed.

Update 4/24 – Another Day, Another Tease

It seems as though the good folks in the Samsung Hype Machine are getting overtime pay this week. Samsung released an Android app on Google Play today called SAMSUNG mobile UNPACKED 2012. It doesn’t provide any new details, except for those lucky few who will be attending the event live in London.  It does promise the ability to live stream the announcement from your phone, as well as drill in to the new product specs.  But only come May 3rd.  Are you feeling the excitement?
