Free Fing for Freeware Friday: Overlook’s Network Discovery Tool

Here’s our Mike Doornbos’ pick for freeware Friday. It’s a network discovery tool beyond compare. Here’s why you’d want to use it — and it’s free. More here …

Ever try to find a printer on the network but you can’t remember the IP address? A free tool targeting system administrators, Fing from Overlook is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux — and Android. Think of it as a quick security scan. It will let you know all the machines on your network, what operating system they run — and the system names, too. That’s terribly useful for administrators.

Did I mention Fing is free — and my selection today for Freeware Friday? It is.

For Linux, I should note that Fing is compatible with Debian 5.0, Ubuntu 8 and up, CentOS 5.0, Fedora 10, Slackware and Gentoo 32-bit and 64-bit.

Happy Friday.
