San Francisco: Barnes & Noble now is shipping its Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet, which is really just a $199 version of the Barnes & Noble Nook Color e-reader with half the memory and storage. That matches the specs and pricing of the Amazon Kindle Fire, as you see below.
Smart move. On seeing the Kindle Fire’s extraordinary success out of the gate — millions are selling through — Barnes & Noble execs certainly would come to the conclusion that it too could do loss-leader pricing and make it up on the flipside with purchases. It’s no Amazon shopping-wise, but the Nook Color is a popular device.
