The last thing I want to do is remotely control a server from my smartphone. But I don’t always have the choice. At my day job, I have to be available when disaster strikes. When it does, I need to be able to quickly check on a server to see if something is running — or not running — and I need the fastest way in to make a quick evaluation.
So my freeware Friday pick this week is 2x Software’s 2x Client RDP/Remote Desktop app for Android.

Programs in this category are typically too sluggish. This one isn’t perfect, either, but it runs fine on both my Motorola Droid X and on my rooted Barnes & Noble Nook Color. You’re not going to want to deploy Microsoft Exchange using 2x. But you’ll be comfortable running services or initiating a reboot if you need to. The integrated mouse function is adequate — but I find it to be more accurate on my phone than on the tablet.
The 2x Client RDP / Remote Desktop app is available at Google Play. And it’s my choice this week for Freeware Friday.
Have a great one.
I use this on my Galaxy SII and it’s great. I recently had to re install Windows my wife’s computer and once I had a basic OS and networking, I was able to connect with 2X to install all her programs without having to sit in a chair staring at progress bars.
That’s a great use case, Dan. Thanks for sharing!
