MWC 2014: AGNITiO Voice iD, FIDO Alliance Details (video)

Written by Todd Townsend

At MWC 2014, we checked out AGNITiO, which showed its Voice iD tech. It’s part of the FIDO Alliance, a group set up to deal with BYOD authentication issues.

aNewDomain.net — At MWC 2014 in Barcelona, AGNITiO execs showed us Voice iD, a way to replace PINs and passwords as a means of authenticating mobile hardware and apps. And it secures digital transactions, too, execs said.

Here’s how AGNITiO works. Check out the deep dive video with aNewDomainTV’s Todd Townsend below and scroll below the fold for more information on this intriguing authentication solution.

But at the ShowStoppers press event at MWC 2014, AGNITiO also spoke of how it and other FIDO (fast identity online) Alliance members will show how so-called FIDO-ready products and companies will define stronger authentication to help ITs manage the deluge of personal devices and data in the enterprise. FIDO members include AGNITiO, Nok Nok Labs, Synaptics, Infineon Technologies, Oberthur Technologies, NXP Semiconductors and other players in the space.

The bottom line, AGNITiO execs emphasized, is open standards for strong authentication. With FIDO-authenticated products and services, cloud, mobile and other online users will be able to access data, sites and services with far-better authentication and security than the current standard of PINs and passwords provides.

According to reps, the point of the FIDO Alliance appearance at MWC 2014 boils down to engaging “the global mobile community in our important quest for universal strong authentication.”

Michael Barrett, FIDO Alliance president, added:

Like the Internet, the mobile industry is limited until strong authentication standards are ubiquitous. Trust is foundational to mobile markets – mobile users who can trust that the products and services they use are secure and private will organically push markets for more … with FIDO authentication, mobile services and products become easier to use with authentication that is simple, yet more secure and private than passwords and PINs.”

As for AGNITiO Voice iD, that product is intended to identify a user’s voice during its transit from device to call centers.

At MWC 2014, AGNITiO demonstrated the FIDO-compliant Voice iD  as a way to quickly and universally replace passwords and PINs for authenticating mobile devices, apps and cloud services — and for making digital transactions secure.

Watch for aNewDomain’s interview with AGNITiO execs in this space soon. And check out our coverage of the Connected City presentation, which features FIDO-compliant products. It’s at MWC 2014 later this week.

The FIDO Alliance Board of Directors includes, execs said, BlackberryCrucialTec (KRX: 114120), Discover Financial Services(NYSE: DFS), GoogleLenovoMasterCard (NYSE: MA), Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT”), Nok Nok Labs, Inc.NXP Semiconductors N.V.(NASDAQ:NXPI), Oberthur Technologies OTPayPal (NASDAQ:EBAY), RSASynaptics (NASDAQ: SYNA) and Yubico.
