Global Selfie: Ready for Your Earth Day 2014 NASA Closeup?

Ready for your selfie? Your Global Selfie, says NASA, is part of a big Earth Day 2014 project. All you have to do is take a picture of where you are right now — in time for Earth Day 2014 …

aNewDomain.net — Capitalizing on the selfie craze, and for a good cause, NASA is asking Earthlings to take part in its Global Selfie campaign. It’s all part of Earthday 2014, celebrated April 22, 2014.

For the NASA Global Selfie project, NASA asks that you go outside and take a pic of yourself wherever you are at moment. There are printable banners (click here) where you can fill out what city, state and country the pictures are shot in. Or you can identify where you are more creatively, as reps explain in the excerpt below. NASA intends to edit 1000s of pics into a giant montage in the May time frame, execs announcing the project on Google+ say.

After you’ve shot your pic, share it on Twitter, Google+ or Instagram on Earth Day 2014, says NASA, adding that it’ll be monitoring the social networks for photos and videos bearing the hashtag #globalselfie. Or you can post directly to various Global Selfie project sites, including the #GlobalSelfie event page on Facebook and the #GlobalSelfie group on Flickr. There’s also the #GlobalSelfie Google+ event page.

Here’s an excerpt on the hows and the whys from the NASA Global Selfie site:

NASA astronauts brought home the first ever images of the whole planet from space. Now NASA satellites capture new images of Earth every second. For Earth Day we are trying to create an image of Earth from the ground up while also fostering a collection of portraits of the people of Earth … once those pictures stream around the world on Earth Day, the individual pictures tagged #GlobalSelfie will be used to create a mosaic image of Earth — a new “Blue Marble” built bit by bit with your photos …  (If you) need an idea of what kind of picture to take … get outside and show us mountains, parks, the sky, rivers, lakes — wherever you are, there’s your picture. Tell us where you are in a sign, words written in the sand, spelled out with rocks — or by using the printable signs we’ve created … the Earth mosaic image itself and a video using the images will be put together and released in May.”

  • One would hope NASA had better things to do with its time & our tax dollars but sadly it doesnt thanks to our America hating administration!

  • It’s Earth Day. It’s a creative idea. I like it. But, if any of you wants to write an essay about NASA cuts and so on, I’ll run it.
