Last week Barnes & Noble execs ripped on Amazon, making fun of its distribution services and the announcement of its own B&N Color Nook Tablet.
Due next week, the $249 custom Android 3.2 Honeycomb Nook Tablet has Hulu Plus and Netflix integrated. A huge emphasis on that software at the announcement. For Amazon, I guess it was the last straw.
This morning Amazon fired off a press release about the video capabilities of its Kindle Fire — due two days before the Nook next week. The Kindle Fire, execs emphasized in an unusual public reaction, is already a Netflix device . Moreover, there's the subscription Amazon Prime service — available for free for a time to new Amazon Kindle Fire buyers. The statement pointed out that not only does Fire do Netflix — but it's got 18,000 films more. This all from my old buddy David Limp, now a senior VP at Amazon.
At this writing, neither Limp nor Bezos were available for comment.
