Return of the Start Button in Windows 8.1, Boot to Desktop Feature to Come: Tech Now

aNewDomain.net — It’s the return of the Start Button in Windows 8.1, sources tell me. Microsoft, due to customer complaints and the success of utilities companies who are distributing freeware to bring back Windows 8 to a more familiar look, is bringing back the Start Button.

The Start Button is one of the most sorely missed items in the dramatically revamped and tiled Windows 8 interface.

Microsoft also, reportedly at its June developer conference, will be adding a “boot to desktop” feature. That’s the traditional desktop, not the tiled interface so many of our readers in the IT space say is posing such a steep learning curve for users.

What do you think? We’d love to know. For aNewDomain.net, this is Tech Now with Gina Smith for April 22, 2013.

A Start button that takes you to the start screen is not capitulating to consumer complaints, it’s ignoring them entirely. Nobody wants a stupid button that takes you to a screen you never want to see.
