SpaceX: Dragon Finally Takes Off Into Orbit, Makes History

After a setback last week, SpaceX launched Dragon — and the orbital craft is off to catch up — or try to catch up — to the International Space Station (ISS). It’s a commercial venture. This is historic.

After a setback last week, SpaceX at last launched its Dragon spacecraft, powered by its Falcon 9 rocket. In an interview with the BBC, NASA’s Charles Bolden says it is the beginning of a new era in space exploration.

Sure is! SpaceX is the first ever commercial company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station, better known as the ISS.

Over the next few days, Dragon will step through a series of test to evaluate if it is able to dock with the ISS. Once the craft docks, it’ll offload supplies. If all goes well, the plan is for Dragon to return to Earth in two weeks.
