Tim O’Reilly: On Desktop App Stores and Open Source (Video Interview)

Our Todd Ogasawara talks Open Source and mobile apps with Tim O’Reilly at an Ignite event in Honolulu

I caught up with Tim O’Reilly, CEO and founder of O’Reilly Media, during a break at an unconference/Ignite event in Honolulu this week. We spoke on campus of Kapiolani Community College at the foot of Diamond Head Crater, where the event took place.

Tim O'Reilly

Tim provided his thoughts about what the rise of desktop computer app stores — ┬álike those from Apple and Microsoft — really means. He talks about its effect on open source tech in general — and on Code for America.

ED DISCLOSURE: Todd Ogasawara is an IT pro and author who has published work via Tim O’Reilly’s publishing company.

Tim mentions Code for America in his chat – here’s the link.

Disclosure: I wrote for O’Reilly Media on a regular basis from 2002 to 2008. You can find the books and articles I was involved with at this O’Reilly author link.

Fascinating interview. I particularly find interesting what O’Reilly has to say about the opportunity for open source to beat the typical corporate procurement trap.
